I am Professor emerita in Music Education with Educational Sciences as profile. With a musical point of departure in Swedish traditional fiddle music, I have developed a research profile that focuses on intercultural perspectives on musical learning and creativity(ies). My doctoral thesis The Oral University. Attitudes to music teaching and learning in the Gambia (2003) laid the foundation for further development of musically informed research methods, following the principles of sensuous scholarship. Additional and interconnected research interests that are reflected in my publications are social sustainability and collaborative learning. I have spent over 30 years teaching educational sciences at the music teacher education program, supervising students at graduate, master and PhD levels. As an emerita I supervise PhD students and participate in the research community at Malmö Academy of Music. My international experience covers participation in international research projects and active involvement in the International Society for Music Education (ISME) where I was a board member 2018-2020. I served as a commissioner in the Music in Schools and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC) 2008 - 2014. I have been active in the international network Cultural Diversity in Music Education (CDIME) since its origins in the network Teaching Musics of the World that emanated in the early 1990ies. 2013 - 2016 I mentored the doctoral students at the Institution for Educational Sciences at Campus Helsingborg. Since 2015 I am a docent at University of the Arts, Helsinki, and in that capacity I was a member of the International Advisory Board in the project "Global Visions Through Mobilizing Networks: Co-Developing Intercultural Music Teacher Education in Finland, Israel and Nepal", 2015-2020. Ongoing projects are “Performing the Political: Public Pedagogy in Higher Music Education”, lead by University researcher Tuulikki Laes and “Transition Pathways towards Gender Inclusion in the Changing Musical Landscapes of Nepal” (amplifyHer), lead by Professor Heidi Westerlund. On a Nordic level I participated in the development of the GLOMAS program, and as a board member of the Nordic Network for Research in Music Education, NNRME.
