Admission to Master Programme, Jazz/Improvisation

The admission test consists of two rounds. Round 1 is conducted remotely by you uploading work samples. If you pass, you will be invited to Round 2, which is an interview in week 10, also conducted remotely.

Round 1 (uploaded work samples)

You must submit:

• two (2) videos in which you participate as a musician and which clearly show your musicianship and music making. You can upload videos in MP4 format or submit links to YouTube, a website etc.
   
• one (1) solo piece of your choice of 4-6 minutes that includes improvisation. Live electronics are allowed but you may not use a pre-recorded backing track.
   
• a description of all videos you have submitted. Who has written the music? What is your role on the recordings (own group/sideman) (PDF)
   
• a detailed description of the plan and purpose of your studies, including the outline of an artistic project, the artistic processes you will focus on during your studies, and how you intend to use the programme to achieve your goals (PDF)
   
• CV of musical background and current musical activities (PDF)

The material must be uploaded via the link below no later than 22 February 2025.

Round 2 (Zoom interview)

During the interview, you are expected to present the purpose and objectives of your studies. Exact date and time are stated in the invitation letter after the assessment of Round 1. 

1. Read the information carefully to ensure you send the correct files in the correct format.
2. Make sure you have applied for the programme universityadmissions.se

Prepare your files

• Save the files you want to submit in MP3 format (audio files) and MP4 format (video files).  
   
• Name each file with a title and number, your initials (first name + surname, two letters each), and your date of birth (YY/MM/DD). Separate the data with underscores (_).
   
  • Example: Video1_ JeSm_990230 (for Jessica Smith, born 1999-02-30)
  • The next file is named Video2_ JeSm_990230, and so on.
     
• If you want to use links to YouTube, Soundcloud, your own website or similar as work samples, write full link names in a separate text document and save it as a PDF. Name the PDF file according to the format: Links_JeSm_990230 
   
• Save your other text documents as PDFs and name them with title_initials_date of birth.
  • Examples: CV_JeSm_990230, Plan_JeSm_990230 etc.

Create a ZIP file

• Create a folder on your computer and name it according to the format: MuJazzMas_NameSurname_Date of Birth (YY/MM/DD)
   
  • Example: MuJazzMas_JessicaSmith_990230
     
• Place all files in the folder and compress it into a ZIP file. Do not use RAR, as we cannot open that format.
   
• The folder must not exceed 5 GB.

Upload your ZIP file

• Open the upload link (found further down this page).
   
• Select or drag the ZIP file from your computer.
  Enter the same email address you used when you applied for the programme at antagning.se or universityadmissions.se
   
• Click Upload.

Once the upload is complete, you will receive a confirmation in your browser. Do not close the browser until the upload is finished.

Note: It is your responsibility to ensure that the work samples are complete, in the correct format, and playable.
