Key dates for your application

  1. Sign up for the programme at antagning.se no later than 16 June 2024.
     
  2. Last completion day to prove your eligibility is 16 June 2024.

  4. Interview and performance conducted online via Zoom on 17 June 2024 from 9:30.

Admission test

The admission test is carried out online by you as an applicant uploading work samples in the form of video recordings no later than 16 June, and participating in a short session live on Zoom on 17 June from 9:30.

Submit video recordings where you perform:

  • Three songs of different nature in your special field, one of which must be performed solo. In the test, you must play/sing your main instrument within your genre. If you want accompaniment on the other two songs, it's fine to play with someone or to a pre-recorded background.

    The total time for all three songs must not exceed 15 minutes. Feel free to choose songs that show slightly different sides of how you play, but which at the same time show that you have deep knowledge of at least one folk and world music tradition.
     
  • The folder https://lu.box.com/s/og3zqfwveg78ljovj4gaaz5wfyt7h50y contains sheet music and recordings for three songs that we have recorded. You must record yourself on film when you play to one of these songs. You choose which of them you think suits you best.

    If for some reason the key of the song does not suit you, it is ok to change the key of it in any program for this, but you are not allowed to change the tempo. Instructions for what to play in different parts of the song, depending on what instrument you play, can be found in the same folder. Remember that both the background and you should be heard in the video, but primarily you.

The recordings must be uploaded to the Academy of Music in Malmö via the link below.

On Monday 17 June from 9:30 you will also do three (3) test sessions that will take place live via Zoom. Here you must do the following:

1. You get a sheet of music sent to you, which you have one minute to look at, and then you should try to play it back to the camera. Example of a prima vista assignment: https://lu.box.com/s/y0v9s9mw8c0h46bkio1h4coyuthz5vqg.

2. We play some melodic phrases, and you should try to imitate them on your instrument.

3. We also conduct a short interview where we will ask you a little about what you have done before in your life as a musician, and what your plans are for applying to us. 

For all three elements, they can be of great importance for our assessment of you, but none of them are decisive - it is not a requirement to be approved in all three in order to be accepted. From the test on Zoom, it must be clear that you speak English well enough to be able to follow the education. Therefore, the entire test is conducted in English. The three test moments together take about 10 minutes.

Since the test takes place directly after the deadline for the videos this time, everyone who will take the test needs to gather
on Zoom at 9:30 on 17 June, and then you will get to know what time of day your 10 minutes are (most likely before lunch). Then you can log out again and log in when it's your turn.

In order to complete these three test steps, you therefore need access to Zoom, sound from the computer (headphones or speakers) and a stable internet connection. In order for the sound during the moment on zoom to be as good as possible, it is important that you set up the zoom program so that it is optimized to be able to reproduce music. OTHER QUALIFYING TESTS
There are no other qualifying tests in the admissions test in this Bachelor program. If you are accepted, a diagnostic theory test is also carried out in connection with the start of the semester to determine what level of theory teaching you need.

Instructions and criteria for videos

In order for the video recordings to be approved as a basis for assessment, you must follow the instructions below:

  • Start your video recordings by identifying yourself – film your ID or passport, and your face. State which piece you will perform.
     
  • Your face, hands and instrument must be visible at all times.
     
  • Perform and record one (1) piece/audition task per film. No clips or other technical edits are allowed.
     
  • The sound should be of good quality, recorded with the microphone in your mobile phone or with a room microphone, without too much room acoustics and without distortion and noise.
     
  • The video recordings must have good image quality with good contrast and light.
     
  • You must upload the recordings in MP4 format. Other file formats are not allowed. Your folder with work samples must not exceed 5 GB.

If these instructions are not followed or if we suspect that the video files have been modified, your submitted samples of work may be assessed as invalid.

Instructions for uploading samples of work

  1. Make sure you have signed up for the programme you are applying for at antagning.se or universityadmissions.se
     
  2. Save the videos you want to submit in MP4 format. Name each file with a title, your initials and date of birth – use the first two letters of your first and last name and the year/month/day format for your date of birth. Separate the data with underscores.

    Example:
    Video1_LaJo_990230 (In the example, the applicant is named Lars Jonsson and was born on 2 February in 1999. The next file is called Video2_LaJo_990230 etc.)
     
  3. Create a new folder on your computer. Name the folder with the abbreviation your name_your instrument_date of birth (year/month/day).

    Example: LarsJonsson_Violin_990230
     
  4. Put all your files in the folder and save it on your computer. 
     
  5. Compress your folder into a ZIP file (do not use RAR files, we cannot open these). The folder must not exceed 5 GB.
     
  6. Open the link for uploading samples of work. You will find the link at the bottom of this page.
     
  7. Download or drag the entire folder from your computer into the upload window.

  8. When the upload is complete, you will receive a confirmation directly in the browser. Do not close the browser until the upload is complete.

Please note: It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the work samples are complete according to the audition information, that they are submitted in the correct format and are playable. Never send your samples of work to the admissions email. They will end up in the wrong place and your application will not be considered complete.
